About StuCAN Society

ATUCAN is Ireland’s first student ran organisation centered around climate consciousness.

StuCAN, which is the student version of ACAN, the ‘Architects Climate Action Network’, a movement created by architects to change the way we build. StuCAN groups aim to educate members about designing with the climate crisis in mind.

Our goal in Sligo is to make education around architecture and the environment exciting with workshops and talks from professionals as well as social events and trips.

ATUCAN Society is open to all students and YAADA students are strongly encouraged.

Climate – Learning and educating around our material choices, sustainable practice, and passive designing.

Action – Doing as well as learning. Active workshops, guest speakers and critics and open panel discussions.

Network – Creating a network within ATU School of Architecture, as well as the wider area, making partnerships with local practices.

Our first social week will be held on the week beginning Monday 7th April. Various workshops and talks are being held over the course of the week. On Monday 7th we are holding a climate conference with guest speakers Duncan Baker-Brown, author of ‘The Re-Use Atlas,’  and Rachel Loughry, founder of ACAN Ireland. Duncan has delivered TED talks on topics of designing sustainably and tackling the climate crisis within architecture. This is open to all ATUCAN members for free and tickets cost 10euro for non-members. This week culminates on Thursday 10th April with our annual student organised Architecture Ball.

Our short term goals are to have a successful week of activities and workshops and expanding our social media presence nationwide to reach our long-term goals of collaborating with other schools of architecture and founding a StuCAN Ireland. With this we hope to connect internationally at events and conferences.
